the l word.
watched a few episodes of the l word, last night — "the showtime original series...about a group of young women in los angeles, their lives, careers, and romantic relationships — both gay and straight."
i found it to be a show that i can get mildly addicted to, despite the girl-on-girl action that i thought was a bit too "on the nose" (gay show=show lots of gay sex). it will probably take time for the show to develop the characters (jenny and her "moody tortured writer" is stereotypical and plus, she reminds me of brenda from 90210 way too much; i found bette, jennifer beals' character, too "i'm an intense businessperson who also gets moved to tears by art", her partner, laurel, played by tina kennard, too domesticized; and their hair! geez, la girls are well-coifed, but gawd!). heather havrilesky said it best in her review at salon (premium members only), "land of the lipstick lesbians": "'the l word seems so intent on representing lesbians in a flattering light it winds up in a toothless nowhere land of cute quips and flat characters."
but i'm going to keep watching to see how they do. maybe they'll improve now that they've been renewed for a second season?
after all, what else will i have to do with my sunday nights after satc ends in a couple of weeks?
the l word is on showtime sundays at 10:00.
