holiday volunteering.
i'd like your suggestions on where i should volunteer this holiday season. i've got one "gift-giving" opp lined up, but i'm looking to do more. ideally, i'd like to do something with kids, something independent of the location in which i live (can be here in the us or international). also, i'd like to volunteer with an organization that is not affiliated with any religion. i've looked for "dear santa" letter-writing campaigns, but the one in which i'd like to participate, is closed for registration. thanks for your thoughts.

I am volunteering for Christmas Wrapping at the http://www.childrenshungerfund.org/>Children's Hunger Fund on the 19th. I heard about it at church though I don't know if they are affiliated with any religion. They are also boxing food and supplies this Saturday but I will be out of town so I can't go. Let me know if you need more info.

Oh, I also thought of serving Thanksgiving lunch/dinner at a soup kitchen or at L.A. Mission (downtown) but I don't think I can do it this year.

I've always been intrigued by the Big Brother and Big Sister programs.
And I've always wanted to help in a Habitat for Humanity program too -- I actually received a letter from the L.A. organization today. I'd love to do that.
thanks, leslie. actually, habitat is a christian-based org. — mipmup

Really just a rough and quick thought...I know l.a. is huge and with many in need as well as many helpers needed. But if you cannot find a place to volunteer that suits your idea(l)s, have you ever thought of selling some holiday cards or cards in general, and donating the proceeds or all the money? I mean, with your affection for paper, shapes and prints and all, and so many loyal readers here - everyone would love to buy from you (including me).
