menu for hope ii.
feeling particularly give-y? check out a menu for hope ii, a fundraiser with a (lemon) twist. donate just $5 and enter a raffle to win your choice of a plethora of interesting and diverse food-related prizes. and the more you donate, the more chances you have to win (e.g. donate $20 and enter the raffle for four different prizes).
all donations go to benefit earthquake victims in the kashmir region of india and pakistan via unicef. i feel that the earthquake victims have really not received all we can give and this is an optimum time and way to make a difference, especially with winter coming on. in fact, according to "the new york times," many of the survivors are "...preparing for the harsh himalayan winter by digging graves before the ground freezes."
please donate what you can.

The menue of hope fund is really worth it - because donating into a fund that then hands on one large packet of $$$ is much more economic than a zillion single donators: it eats up less costs for processing the transactions.
I have the feeling that since the tragedy happened so far from many people's front doors, and because it's a region that's inexistant on the virtual map of many people (and maybe, maybe because these people happen to have the "wrong" faith), donations are making it too slow and this winter will see too many innocent victims.
Imagine old people carrying their sick grandchildren over the mountains into the next medical center or walking miles for miles only to find they're too late and the food rations have already been allocated.
