friday favorites.

here are my favorites for this week:

  • sweet wraparound apron. i always feel a little self-conscious around guests in my plain williams-sonoma apron, but this one has a little somepin-somepin. also, it was made in india by a fair trade business. thanks to chookooloonks for pointing me to this site that offers only fair trade goods. i like that they include a card with each purchase so buyers have a the scoop on where it's from and who it's helped. $28.
  • bright bulletin board. looks like garnet hill is getting into the home office biz. i like this pink and orange (orange!) bulletin board. very see jane work of them. $28.
  • amelia necklace. these kind of remind me of rummy tiles, but i like them! $18.
  • organic hemp napkins. i've never seen organic napkins before. and available in orange! suh-weet! $21.63, us. (as an aside, downbound seems like a cool org: "downbound signifies an ideological movement down the corporate ladder, down the food chain, and down to earth. downbound stands firmly in favour of alternatives to abusive labour conditions, animal exploitation, and environmentally unsustainable practices. all of our products are fair labour, vegan, and as environmentally friendly as possible.")

Killers

sure they look sweet now, but read wednesday's post at all & sundry and you'll soon feel differently. you see, it touches on what cats do to their dead owner's body, specifically starting with the nose, which inspired me to include pictures of the cats in hope that should i perish all alone in the house, they might just remember that i once loved them very much. note to readers: this is officially becoming a cat blog.

Gwendop1b

i'm so over "hello!" magazine.

the caption to this photo reads: "style queen gwen looks as cool as ever in a wraparound dress and trousers, teamed with shades."

um. hello, hello?

here are my favorites for this week:

  • cool prep board. sure, i have five cutting boards. what's it to ya? i don't have a bambooooo one (with prep bowls!), thankyouverymuch. $149.
  • leaf trivet. i've been looking everywhere for a not-ugly trivet! and here it is! hooray! $30.
  • moses basket + assorted sweet things. so that's what these are called? whatever. they're too cute for words. this one comes with a bunch of stuff, so next time someone you love welcomes a new little one, you won't look cheap. (um. 'cause it isn't cheap.) $110.
  • doggie backpack. yeah, yeah, what use is a cute dog if you can't make her work for a living? i'm sick of carrying stuff for her. and for me, dammit. i'm getting this. $49.99.

la eats.

i'm geeking out on la eats with maps, a google maps mashup highlighting, well, la eats, from ning, a company that offers "...a free online service for building social applications." and if you like what you see, you can clone the entire app for free! free! sweet. i feel like i just discovered another country. la eats with maps is the sister site of la.foodblogging.com, a collective la food blog, so i'm hoping that the recs are goodies.

mildly alarmed.

is there something in the air 'round here? few things have happened in the past two days to cause me mild alarm:

  • apparently, besides seawater and kelp, seagulls also eat candy bracelets. (note to self: purchase camera cellie and make it snappy.)
  • why was i bawling while watching "the sisterhood of the traveling pants?' thank god i was alone.
  • my roasted beets with garlic smells like pot.
  • the newspaper delivery dude drives a jag. are we all in the wrong business?

friday favorites.

here are my favorites for this week:

  • flower-power pillow. i think i'm becoming a mod. i mean, i never used to like this stuff, but now i see it in west elm in all its consumery goodness and i can't help but think, "hey! that'd look cute in my house." i'm such a sucker for the power of the catalog. $24.
  • popsugar. i, the gossip maven, had never heard of this site until i visited poppy and learned that she was experiencing withdrawals from not being able to access the site. well, now i see the light. maven, i surely wasn't before visiting this little spot of heaven. in one quick click, i learned: angelina is pregnant with brad's baby (walking cliché); kirsten dunst continues to dress like a homeless person; jess has a busted-up eyeball; and mariah looks a bit grody from behind. free!
  • recipe binder set. yes, i realize i could make my own recipe binder set, but why do that when i can buy this adorable one? i can now stop folding and stuffing my printed recipes into the alleged "recipe box" i'm using currently. $65.
  • ipod radio remote. i've been waiting for this since i received my ipod as a valentine's day gift from my better half last year (ahem). fm radio access! a remote! it a perfect marriage! now, i simply need to upgrade my pod to a nano or ipod video. good thing valentine's day is coming up. $49.
  • pretty kaftan. can i get away with wearing this around town? i'm not totally certain, but i like to imagine myself in it, shopping, walking the dog, working at my desk. ok. maybe not. maybe it's just one more reason i need to move someplace tropical. $156.

need a break?

this is a fantastic way to take one. design yourself or your friends, then put the design on stuff. i don't know if i'd go that far (i'm no longer 17, you see), but the designing part makes a mindlessly good time.

thanks, little things!
