won't you be my neighbor?
are you ever out and about and you happen to chat with someone that you totally want to stalk as a friend? this happened to me today when i stopped to get a chai at a neighborhood not my own. i had just been in a restaurant supply store (where i scored some seriously cute quarter-sized baking sheets) and the woman behind me in line had been there, too. we started talking and she seemed really great. i think i would love to be her friend, but i never know what to do in those situations. so tell me, as you get older, how do you make friends without appearing like a weirdo?

Good question...I'll have to check back and see if someone posts the answer.

I wish I knew! I've totally had those situations, but just end up feeling dorky and not wanting to be stalker-like. I too will return and hopefully see and answer.

I felt that way when I had the newborn. There were some moms out there in the same situation and I wanted to say, please please be my friend?

hmmm...i think it depends on how long the initial conversation is and how well you both click. if you end up chatting for a while, it might be appropriate to just go "well, i've really enjoyed talking to you...i wonder if you'd be up for some coffee sometime? we could chat more about ?" it's always nice if you happen to have a business card with you so the process of getting out paper and writing down your info won't make the situation more awkward. even if the card just has your name, number, website, etc. Or if you both have kids, then you could breach the idea of organizing a play-date or volunteer to look after the other person's kid to get the relationship going. just be polite and friendly and don't be afraid to "ask the other person out" if you think you two have really hit it off. hehe, making new friends is very similiar to dating in my opinion! you enjoy each other's company, through which you bond and build trust! :)
