i have been trying to buy only used books or visit the library to be more environmentally-friendly. i'm a little obsessed about it of late, so much so that i completely resisted buying two books on entertaining that i desperately wanted before hosting my mom's birthday dinner party. to add more fuel to the fire, the other day, ideal bite offered this little gem in their daily tip:

more than 3.1 billion books are purchased in the united states each year, and most are made from nonrecycled paper and petroleum-based inks.

today, i happily came across bookmooch, "a community for exchanging used books," in one of my yahoo! groups. i think i'll give it a go, though now i'm worried that shipping all these books around might be even worse for the environment. hmmmmmmm.
