125 fresh search engines to make life easier.

i'm a bit of a nerd: i dig encyclopedias, the ap stylebook and fact-finding. it was therefore, with great pleasure, that i found via the idée blog  these links to "50 awesome search engines every librarian should know about" by laura milligan, where you'll find out how to perform custom searches and "family-friendly" searches  (school projects anyone?) and "75 bleeding-edge search engines to beat google" by john conroy where you'll discover new engines to find photos, videos, blogs, music — perhaps even the favorite sites of your company's president.

imagine how you'll impress your friends! or if you're like me, have them give you that "rca dog" look indicating your nerdiness has far exceeded their wildest dreams. either way.

searching for color.

Mutlicoloursearchresults i recently discovered the incredibly inspiring multicolour search lab, where you can chose up to 10 colors and search through over 3 million stock photos or flickr images to find ones that match your desired palette. you can even upload your own image and find complementary images.

be warned: it's highly addictive.

strawberry shortcake is just fine the way she is, thank you.

Strawberryshortcake having grown up with strawberry shortcake (yeah, i had the sheet set), i found reading this article highly irritating. a highlight:

most of the brands getting a makeover are from the 1980s. licensing experts say they perceive a subtle psychological game at play, an attempt to hit the nostalgia button on a generation of young parents just as they start to feel their first twinges of middle age.

annoying. i like my strawberry shortcake just the way she was: pink, smelly good and sans cell phone.

where to find free books.

1011112_81993362 i may have confessed my guilt about buying new books previously. i can't feel good about the amount of paper used to create them, ship them, market them. it's a enviro-conundrum! therefore, i was delighted when my mom sent me this "ultimate guide" to where to score recycled books. somehow, reading gently loved books makes the reading experience much more comfortable for me.

yep, i've got "green ocd." i admit it.

on the wishlist: orla kiely wottle bottle.

Orlakielywottle another reason i'm obsessed with orla kiely: they are using the awesome power of their designs to promote refillable water containers. woo! while i suppose it's not "ethical consumerism" to buy one since i have two siggs at home (including a hello kitty i just received as a gift), i think i must purchase to - ahem - support the movement.

(i'll forget that i just saw their notebooks at target. diluting the brand at a store i semi-boycott? what?)
